Nerine sarniensis


This Nerine is probably in the background of most of today's hybrids. To be honest, I don't really see the need to improve this plant. Unfortunately this image is a little oversaturated, but it's not too far from the truth to get an idea of the beauty of the plant. It is strictly hysteranthous (at least under my conditions) and flowers as you see it here: out of bare earth, when little else is happening in the bulb bed. There are various color forms, but most that I've seen are either pink or scarlet. Like many of the Amaryllids, this Nerine resents disturbance. If you have to dig them up, it may be a while before they flower again.
